2nd Friday Skate at Underwood Community Center
Did you go to the roller skating night on May 17th at the Underwood Community Center?
Gina Day and Alicia Beyer hosted that very successful first event and they hope to see it continue on the 2nd Friday of every month.Their long term goals are to provide a healthy and fun activity for all ages, in a safe and friendly environment. They want the Skate Nite event to continue throughout the year and especially during the fall and winter months when it’s cold, wet and dark outside. They believe providing affordable and appropriate activities are a key component in creating a healthy community.
For the first event Alicia purchased the hotdogs, buns, chips, drinks, candy bars and banana muffins and she and her children set up chairs, music and ran the concession stand. In the future any concession money to be made at the event will be for the group running the concessions that night. The check-in process was an easy set up and easy to run with a cash app and a cash box with change at check-in. The $3 entry fee for the event went to the UCC (Underwood Community Center) to cover the cost of housekeeping.
Although they’d love to see this event continue, they will need help with 2nd Friday Skate Nite in the future. Alicia and Gina are open to suggestions, maybe having colorful lights at Skate Nite will help set the tone for the party and offer pretty visuals at a low cost and easy set up. Kristen Poole is very excited about having theme events like 60s, 70s, 80s nights where folks can dress up, adding to the fun at the event.
Perhaps members of Community Partners or Mt. Adams Chamber of Commerce can help out financially in some way or help run the concession stand? If you can help please contact Gina at dayginar@gmail.com or Alicia at aliciabeyer28@gmail.com.
