Bingen-White Salmon Community Cleanup
The 2022 Community Cleanup of Bingen-White Salmon event will be April 22nd and 23rd at the Bingen Maintenance Yard at the Maple St./E. Marina Way entrance to the Klickitat Port area. The event celebrates its 26th anniversary this year, having started in 1996 following a devastating winter ice storm which created serious property damage and littered the community with tons of yard debris. The event has grown over the years to include recycling and repurposing of materials and has expanded to handle items such as metal, paint and electronics. Residents can drop-off items or schedule a pickup. There will also be an area set aside for items that can be taken for reuse.
Many volunteers are needed to help staff this important community event. A Volunteer Schedule Sign Up Sheet is active, the shifts are two hours throughout the day from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and we ask that volunteers show up 15 minutes before to check in and be oriented for activities such as set up, gate control, traffic direction, unloading materials, assisting at one of the event stations, pick up of yard debris from seniors in the immediate area, equipment operation and site cleanup. A need for licensed equipment operators is a priority. We ask that volunteers lock in their shifts and assist us with outreach to secure other volunteers. Please funnel inquiries through Tammara Tippel at Mt Adams Chamber, 509-493-3630 or mtadamschamber@gmail.com. Here’s more information that may help encourage you to volunteer for the event.
The Rotary Club of White Salmon-Bingen and Mt. Adams Chamber of Commerce plan and host the event along with a multitude ofpartners and sponsors including Klickitat County Recycling and Solid Waste, Republic Services, City of Bingen, City of White Salmon, SDS Lumber, Dirt Huggers, Insitu, Community Partners, Washington Gorge Action Programs, Bethel Church and more.
Sponsors are also needed to help defray costs of this nonprofit community event. Donations support equipment rental, container transportation and disposal, safety equipment, yard debris bags, signs, advertising, and food/drinks for volunteers. Financial donations and proceeds that support event costs and future planning are handled through the White Salmon-Bingen Rotary Club Foundation. Any excess funds will go to Rotary programs that benefit both communities.
