Dear Community Members,
The Underwood Community has been grateful for the hard work of the emergency responders from volunteer fire districts throughout both Klickitat and Skamania Counties. We are also grateful for the hands and hearts that reached out to us during the Tunnel 5 Fire.
To show our appreciation to these volunteers and to celebrate the resiliency of our community a small group of volunteers has begun working together to create the Light at the end of Tunnel 5 Community event on Sunday, August 13, 11am-5pm at the Underwood Community Center.
This Community event will serve as a fundraiser for the Underwood Fire Department, Community Center, & The Red Cross, ensuring equipment and supplies are available for future fire responses. Funds will also be used to support our neighbors directly impacted by the Tunnel 5 Fire by donating to WAGAP as well. Some lost everything, and as you know we can’t get everything back but we can help with simple things like new clothes, bedding, household items, etc.
This event is also a chance to heal and connect the families and businesses that call Underwood home. Fire is an ugly thing, but it leaves behind land rich with nutrients for new growth. Likewise, this gathering is our opportunity to plant the seeds of community growth.
We are asking for donations of any kind of support or funds to increase the impact of our fundraiser. When you donate you help cover the cost of the food, beverages, kids activity’s, music, and more. We want this to be an event to remember.
If you would like to provide donations of food, entertainment, or supplies please contact Ivy at 541-788-4557 or email our team at LightAtTheEndOfTunnelFive@gmail.com
Thank you for your consideration,
The Underwood Tunnel 5 Fire Response Committee
